My goal, as a landscape designer, in my own yard has always been to try and create a cottage type garden with lots of cutting flowers and to have the yard look as good as possible year round. I am not there yet but gardening is always a work in progress, and I still have lots of space to develope. Right now it is really a matter of not having enough time to do the gardening that I want to do, so I am just making the best of what I already have, for now. What I do have is beautiful yellow roses. This yellow rose is my all time favorite, it is a David Austin Rose called Golden Celebration. I am not really a Hybrid Tea kinda girl, too stuffy for my taste, and too much maintenance. The David Austin roses have a double flower and are much shrubbier than the teas, go great with perennials and annuals and as a bonus make a great cut flower to put in arrangements. Which is my next project, trying to get better at arranging flowers. This is my first attempt this season, I only have a few flowers to work with right now but later I will hopefully have more selection. That is if I can find the time to get them cut :) If not I will just enjoy them out my windows!
Yesterday, after Nevin's calf branding, we went over to the Bergen's for a bar-b-que and while the kids were playing outside, Rikki crashed into the corner of their bar-b-que. She smacked into it so hard that she landed about 2 feet away from it. Susan, my witness, and I were standing right there when she did it. We really weren't sure what she had done until we picked her up, initally when I picked her up there was nothing on her face, but as we stood there trying to figure out where she was hurt her face started to swell and turned black as can be. It looks really good in this picture, this morning. If I were to take her to Walmart today, I would probably be getting some pretty nasty looks, so we will be staying home for awhile :) Poor kid, she seems fine and is as happy as can be today. Just had to document her first big injury. Hopefully her last.
Which picture to put on my blog, hmmmm? The one of Alicia and Rikki where Alicia is being herself and sticking her tounge out at me, or the sweet picture of Alicia and Rikki where Alicia is smiling all pretty, (only after I yelled at her and said, "this is going on my blog) Well, we took a vote around here and guess which one won? (Steve was the only voter) Sorry Alicia, we went with the real you:) Love ya!
On Friday, Sydney and I went and helped Glennda decorate for Brad's surprise 60th birthday party. We had to put plastic table cloths on all the tables, when we were finished Sydney took the roll of checkered table cloth and was trying to make herself a wedding dress. Not really sure where she got this idea, except that she is going to be a flower girl in her uncle Turk's wedding in October. Glennda and I helped her make her dress a little more tailored and she wore it the rest of the day. What do you think Turk and Erin, will this work for your big day? Brad's party was last night and it was a big success, other than him totally knowing about the surprise. Oh well, everyone had a great time and enjoyed great food music and friends, Happy Birthday Brad.
Last Friday I went to pick up Sydney from pre-school, I was late, she was the only kid left to be picked up and she was sitting in the middle of the floor playing by herself. I noticed she had this bracelet on and I asked her to put it away, since they have things for the kids to dress up with I assumed it belonged to the school. She told me it was hers and I asked the teacher if it was hers and she said, "oh yes, it is hers, she got a special surpise today because she was the only kid who would help me clean up the class at the end of the day." So we left and I was telling Sydney how proud I was of her for helping out the teacher and asked her what she did to earn the bracelet. Sydney said, "Teacher Laura asked us kids to help clean up and I grabbed the garbage can and started to clean up while all the other kids were diddely-farting-around." I guess that would be my word, I am the guilty one for teaching her that one since she is the queen of diddely-farting-around, especially in the morning before school.
Aunt Moose moved out to her own house yesterday and Sydney has been moping around ever since saying, "I miss Moosey, I miss Moosey." She moved in with us in December of 2005 a month before Rikki and Alex were born and they have been buddies ever since. Moose has a room for Sydney at her house and Sydney was convinced that she was moving in with Moose. Sunday morning I said to Sydney, "Moose is moving out today." And Sydney says, "Goodie, I don't have to live with my parents anymore!" She is staying with us but is not entirely happy about it. One good thing though, Sydney wants to take a bunch of toys to Moosey's house, YEAH!!
Happy Birthday Steve, actually it was on Wednesday the 16th. (We are kinda behind with our posts.) Wednesday was kinda a busy day after working, Sydney had swim lessons and the girls are all pretty sick, still, so we didn't get to do much for his birthday. Sydney got him a card for his birthday that said, Happy Birthday Grandad, but since it had a Bulldog on the front she knew it was the perfect card. (Steve loves Bulldogs and really wants one) He got a stuffed one for Christmas and the card will have to do for his birthday. We actually saw some pups in the mall around Christmas time and thought for one moment about getting one, that is untill I asked the price, $1700 for one or I could have the runt for $1200! Crazy to me to spend that kind of money on a dog. Especially when we really have no time for one. Anyway, he ended up getting some new clothes and a gate and panel for his corrals. We are also in the middle of breeding cows right now and our facilities are less than ideal at this point so we are trying to build a new corral to help make things easier for everyone. If we need to gather at this point it takes a small army and a horse, we are trying to eliminate all that and the need for dad or Marti to come and help us, I'm sure they would appreiciate that. Thanks for your help though!
...Monkey Do. Yesterday Sydney and I were working outside most of the day, cleaning up the yard and planting flowers. (Mostly I was working and she was driving her John Deere gator around the yard taking Rikki for rides.) I had the four wheeler out and was taking flowers from place to place planting them. So Sydney decided to pull her gator up next to mine and load it with flowers also. Then she drove around the front yard saying, "let me know if you need flowers and I will deliver them for you." Thanks for the help Syd!
I had a great Mother's day. Sydney came into our room first thing that morning singing, Happy Mudders day, Happy Mudders day. Then she brought me a card she and Aunt Moose had gotten me with a mamma giraffe and a baby. When I was opening it she kept saying, Oh this is gonna be good. She likes giving presents as much as she likes to get them, almost. We spent the morning shopping and then we made Mother's day dinner here. We had prime rib, king crab and lots of other goodies and dessert. Who needs to go out to dinner, except for the dishes. We had Nam and Papa and Grandpa and Grandma Young over for dinner and after dinner we all acted like crazy kids and played badmitten, bad is the key word here. But we had fun. The girls played outside on Sydney's John deer four wheeler and had a ball. Mostly Rikki, she loves that thing and loves to go fast, Alex would rather watch. Great Mudders Day for me, hope yours was great too!
