I know this is a really blurry picture, but these moments are pretty rare and it was the best I could do. At least I got the shot. Alex is kissing Rikki, and I guess Rikki is kissing Alex back. Alex is usually the lover, she will hug or kiss Rikki, and Rikki is the one who is usually running away or hitting Alex with a sippy cup, a toy or even her hand. Today, in this moment, they both decided that they loved each other at least for an instant. (The next couple of frames on my camera are of Rikki kicking Alex.)
Today is non-stop rain. This morning Sydney and Steve went up and fixed fence at out neighbors house. We do some work for our neighbor in exchange for pasture rent for our cows. I guess Ron, the owner, came out and started talking to them and after he and Steve had been talking for a few minutes, Sydney said, " We need to stop talking and get back to work, we have a lot to get done." I guess that put a stop to the conversation and a start to the work. They finished fixing the fence in the rain and then came inside. Rikki grabbed this catalog and got in Steve's lap and got so excited about the cows. She started pointing and mooing and she got really upset when Alex jumped up into Steve's lap and tried to see what she was so excited about. (Steve gets them started early on the cows :)
And elephants! Sydney was really wanting to ride the elephant, it was either that or a blow up dolphin that was more than the ride, and since the stuffed animals are about to take over our house, I opted for the elephant ride. $14 to ride with several other people for about 50 feet. And as Sydney puts it, "We got the stinky end." Her and Moosey had a great time and now we have the memories of the stinky, prickly elephant. She got to pet his head and I guess his hair felt like a porkypine. Not sure how many porkypines she has felt though.
We finally made it to the circus, I have been wanting to take Sydney for a long time now. I was debating on whether or not I should take Rikki and Alex, because I wasn't really sure they would enjoy it. I was wrong! All three of the kids were in a trance for the whole show. Sydney was excited about the whole thing, but especially liked the animals. Alex would look at something point and get really excited and start talking about whatever it was she was into. Rikki was watching everything and was always clapping. Billy Joe and Joyce went with us so that was a big help, I was able to take some pictures. Bill and Joyce said they had never been to a circus before either so it was like taking 5 kids. I had the best time watching the girls watch the circus, I think we will go again next year.
Well, all I have to say is, "Jane, you warned me!" I should have listened to your advice. Jane also has a daughter named Alex and when I told her I was going to name one of the twins Alex, she said, "I would think twice if I were you." (Apparently she thinks her Alex is ornery also, or was as a kid, she is all grown up now.) On top of all the dirty looks she has been giving lately, she has been a little pill. Sydney found some cute blue bird eggs in our barn and she carefully collected them to take to school for show and tell. We put them in a bowl and up on a shelf. Well, when Moosey came home, Sydney wanted to show them to her, so she did and then put them back on the kitchen table. I then said, "Sydney did you put them up somewhere where your sisters can't get to them?" No sooner had I said it, we turned around and Alex had all of them crumpled up into tiny little pieces and was laughing about it. Today while Nam was watching the girls she said Alex had a piece of toast and took it over to Rikki. Rikki opened her mouth really wide and Alex stuck the toast in her mouth. As soon as Rikki tried to take a bite, Alex jerked it away from her and started to cackle, of course Rikki started to scream. Nam said she repeated doing this several times, (like 15) and laughed just as hard each time. I guess Alex is honry and Rikki is a slow learner!
Sydney loves to play on her new swingset that she got for her birthday. It was put together on Easter Sunday and she has been wanting to play on it everyday since. We still need to get the ground leveled out a bit, maybe this weekend if the weather is nice. Alex and Rikki aren't so sure about it yet. Alex tried out the duo swing and was really liking it but Rikki wasn't so sure about it and really wanted off.
Alex gives this look now all the time, looks like she is going to have a little attitude. Right now she is the leader of the pack, she does what she wants and Rikki follows. She is really into crawling right now, on the chairs, couches, whatever. Her favorite thing to do is to crawl up on the end table next to our big chair, up onto the arm of the chair and turn the light switch on and off. Rikki does it too but usually after Alex has done it a couple of times. In the last week or so I have taken many pictures of the two of them and it seems in almost every picture she has this look on her face. In this picture it is as if she is saying, what is up with the Easter Bunny anyway?
This is Sydney's first glimpse of what the Easter bunny had left for her, Alex and Rikki. She was getting pretty excited looking around and wanted to go outside, but we made her wait until Rikki and Alex got up. When she finally got to go outside she started collecting the eggs and decided she only wanted the ones with money in them since she could hear the change rattling in the eggs. She wouldn't even touch the ones that were real, she thought they were disgusting. The Easter bunny left her a ball and bat and Steve spent most of the morning trying to help her hit the ball. She thinks this is great fun, especially when she swings early and hits her dad in the butt. Now she wants to play outside all the time, hitting the ball, or playing on her new swingset that Moosey and Trent, and a few others, put together on Easter Sunday. Thanks guys, she loves it! Rikki and Alex got a caterpillar tunnel and thought that was hillarious. They didn't care much about the eggs, they would just pick up one and spend all their time shaking the one egg. Great day was had by all. Hope everyone had a great Easter like we did.
